For artist Delilah Montoya, transforming the past is a communal act in which revered symbols and their mystical and spiritual qualities are reborn in photographic representation. A Chicana Artist, born in Fort Worth, Texas in 1955, Montoya's own personal quest in image-making is the discovery and ar-ticulation of Chicano culture. Montoya's exploration has far reaching implica-tions for both her and her community.
Montoya's work is in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; Los Angeles, CA; Houston Museum of Fine Art; Houston, TX; Mexican Museum; San Francisco, CA; The Bronx Museum, Bronx, NY; and the Smithsonian In-stitute; Washington DC collections. She has exhibited throughout New Mexi-co, Texas, New York, California, France, Russia, Japan and Mexico. Current-ly she is a professor at the University of Houston.
